Jesus directed his Sermon on the Mount primarily to his "disciples" but "disciple" just means a person who learns from a teacher and Jesus had many more "disciples" than the 12. As "disciples" of Jesus it is our desire to learn from His words. As he teaches Jesus instructs us that there is more to living than simply obeying a set of rules. It is indeed possible to live out a "holy" life-style on Sunday's and Wednesday's when we come together for church, but truly living as a disciple of Jesus requires much more than that. Rather than an simple outward show of holiness it is our inner lives (both in attitude and motive) that really matter to God.
